Great Eaves Farm Fire & Evacuation Procedure
1. The action that should be taken on discovery of a fire – PHONE 999!!!!
Immediately operate the nearest fire alarm bell located on the wall outside the kitchen.
Tackle the fire, if possible, with appliances available, without taking personal risks. (See section 5 on fire-fighting equipment)
2. How will people be warned in there is a fire
The fire alarm bell situated on the wall outside the kitchen will be sounded, and the person discovering the fire should shout ‘FIRE FIRE FIRE’ until all persons on the yard are aware of the incident
3. How the evacuation of the building will be carried out
The yard main gate should be shut, and all stable doors opened to allow horses to escape. If possible geldings to arena, mares to left bank. Everyone in the building should leave the building by the nearest exit and report to the assembly point near the yard vehicle entrance. Under no circumstances should anyone put themselves, or anyone else at risk in performing acts to save horses or other animals.

All exits can be used as escape routes. There are escape routes at the top and bottom of each of the barns

5. Fire-fighting equipment provided
Fire extinguishers are located in appropriate areas in the barns, and fire hose reels are located at the bottom of the main barn and in the middle of the smaller barn.
Instruction for the operation of fire-fighting equipment is on the appliances. Please make yourself aware of where the fire fighting appliances are located.
The fire hoses are to be used for fire-fighting purposes only, and NOT for general yard use.
